Nubble Light

No doubt about it... fall in New England is spectacular, with glorious foliage, ripening fruits, harvest moons and clear, crisp weather. Not to be overlooked, in the midst of this abundant beauty, is the eastern seacoast in autumn. The cloudless blue skies and our unseasonably cold temperatures, provide the perfect backdrop for a coastal excursion. Above, we see the Cape Neddick Lighthouse of York Beach, Maine. Below, is a long-view of what is also known as Nubble Light, dating back to 1879.

For a complete history of this cast iron and brick lighthouse, I heartily recommend visiting the Nubble Light website, under the "Southern Maine Lighthouses" umbrella. You'll find lots of information and more photos of Nubble... sunsets, Christmas lights and more!

Now, here we find a local resident, out for a stroll on this stunning fall weekend.

Is he "from here, or away?" I'm guessing, just by his self-assured attitude, this is no tourist... probably one of the "locals" out for a little exercise before lunch. And by the steely stare, I'd say that lunch is high on his Sunday to-do list!

This fall, make it a point to enjoy all the beauty that New England has to offer... from mountain, to forest, to sea.

I'd love to visit that area one day.

Like your new layout with your blogs' listings to the right for easy reference. Happy Sun-day to you.

Deb .. seeing this post has made me home sick for Louisbourg, Cape Breton .. I spent some childhood years there that I will never forget .. you never forget the sound of the fog horn either. Great pictures .. I won't say what nicknames sea gulls have from there ! haha

Just beautiful. Being from Maine originally, I am ashamed to say I have not visited any lighthouses in Maine.

Angie ~ Hope you get to visit this neck of the woods, someday. Thanks for noticing the new sidebar layout for my other blogs. I have relatively few visitors to the other 5, so I'm trying to get folks to take a peek. So far, this new system is not working at all. Nobody's clicking on the photos for their "free ride."

Joy ~ There is something special about the seashore. While I'm not close enough to the shore to have seagulls decorate my car (except when I visit my mom), the backyard mallards have chosen my driveway as their flyway - coming and going from the swamp (aka Lily Pond) - and I can't begin to describe the mess they make of my little red Honda!

Tina ~ Nubble's my favorite and the only one I ever visited. Great memories of day trips with dogs, having picnics and writing poetry, as the surf crashes against the rocky shore. It's over an hour's drive from the North Shore of MA, so it's been quite a few years... too busy with the day-to-day stuff around here. (Photos were taken by friends, in 2007.)

Thanks, Tina ~ Credit goes to Steve Calef ("©CBI" at the end), who took these last fall. I'll pass along the compliment.

My heart just yearns to visit New England someday! What beautiful photos and what a lovely spot (helped by the bluebird weather!)! We spent one brief trip (a couple of weeks or so) beginning with Acadia National Park and up the coastline to the St. Lawrence Seaway and down through Canada one summer. What a wonderful trip that was.

Shady ~ Sounds like a wonderful trip! I once drove along the coast... up to Frenchman's Creek and Arcadia, with two dogs... an enjoyable three days.
