Come join me in a January sunrise celebration! Betwixt and between the accoutrement of crowded suburbia, with its streetlights, utility poles and other paraphernalia, the sunrise inserts itself into my early morning consciousness... insisting on recognition and photographic capture. The following sequence occurred from 6:50 - 7:50 AM on 1/8/08. (As always, click on any of these photos for the full-size versions.)
ENJOY!
Just to the right of center, the sun peeks through distant trees.
Hovering at the tree line.
Here we go... the sun has officially risen!
And so, my humble abode is bathed in the eastern glow of a January sun. Any day that starts with such an awe-inspiring display, will be wonderful... a truly auspicious beginning!
Deb ! That was a wonderful way to watch the progress of the sunrise .. clouds make such a difference with the amount of colour we get to see. the back lighting on the clouds from the sun is awesome too. I won't see a nice sunrise for a while yet .. we are in snow mode once more .. you know what that is like .. Great pictures ! : )
Yea! When I saw that you had posted, I was relieved. I've missed you and hope you've been well. :-) There's so much to be thankful for, isn't there? Especially being able to wake up to such beautiful skies!
Angie ~ I guess the fact that spectacular sunrises don't occur everyday, makes those that are even more "loverly."
Thanks, Joy! I have many more, but chose the most representative of the one-hour sequence. Pretty chilly, but well worth the pursuit. You can borrow my sunrise, until you're out of the snowy stretch. I enjoyed many of your Canadian sunrises, eh?
Shady ~ Under the weather, but back out in the weather, snapping away! I couldn't believe how frequently the sky changed that morning... wind-blown clouds accounted for much of it. It was truly uplifting!
Tina ~ Thanks! Haven't had another like that, since. It's an unexpected treat in the midst of frigid winter. Temps are plummeting and by Friday, we're due for a high of 10ยบ - winter's well and truly ensconced!
Bobbie ~ Happy to share this celebratory feeling, elicited by such natural wonders. You're right - it is always exciting, even when a less stunning display.
Glad you found the sidebar poetry about awards. Sometimes, I just have to admit that time and other limiting factors, won't allow me to do justice to, and honor, other folks' noble intentions. The copyright verse is intended to prickle the conscience of those who would abscond with intellectual property.
Pete ~ More than you know, or anyone could possibly imagine! I change my header every few days, as a new photo gains favor... like my young Cooper's hawk - not too bad for my wee Polaroid digital, I guess. I'll be by, soon. Too much photography and not enough visiting "makes Jill a dull girl!"
Anna ~ Glad you enjoyed the sunrise. I was amazed at the array of colors and constant change, over the course of one hour. As a confirmed breakfast skipper, what is a comfort breakfast? Does it involve grits? My dad used to enjoy those in the winter.

Several photographers have been contributing to this blog, on a regular basis. I thank Steve Calef and Sam Haddock for their valuable, ongoing contributions. Without their artistic efforts, these would have been very bland blogs, indeed. Thanks for sharing. I love the bagpipes. :-)
I totally agree with you Deb.
Sunrise is always exciting and beautiful - no matter where or when. You've captured it so well.
Deb, that was loverly!
P.S.
I love the poetry on your sidebar!

Just amazing. It made me feel like I was at our Easter sunrise service. Those sunrises go well with comfort breakfasts.
I too like your copyright poetry.
Now that is how a day should begin. Great job capturing the moment.
