ICICLE-PALOOZA

I hinted that there were many icicles, melting away in iPhoto, just waiting to see the light of day... just waiting for their day in the sun, or at least a post devoted solely to these pendulous jewels. Well, they're still there! What follow, are photos taken during, and in the wake of, yet another New England snowstorm. With the exception of 7 photos, forwarded by Corliss Bros. (taken at the garden center), all photos were taken here, on the shores of a very frozen, snow- covered Lily Pond.

Enjoy the icicle-palooza!

Yep - they're there... look at the top sash!

The next five photos are
Icicles at Corliss Bros Garden Center...

First time I've seen icicles by the kitchen window

You can pull down the shades,
but there's no escape from the icicles!

Even the Clethra is sporting icicles!

This shot was taken with just a flash.

This was flash, plus backyard floodlight.

First time I've noticed the icicles curve in, toward
the house. These were taken this morning,
about three hours before they slid off
with a deafening crash.

Back of house still has quite an icicle display.

Tonight's sky, viewed through the glitter of ice.

If you look closely, you'll see the setting sun!
And so concludes the icicle-palooza!

Think Spring! (?)

Gorgeous! Wish we could have the icicles without all the snow and slush.

WOW! I haven't seen icicles like these since I was a child back in PA. They are really beautiful. But I'm happy to say that we rarely find anything like this in south Jersey. I do remember once last year when there was a row of small icicles along my roof for a brief time.

Thank you for the beauty, and the memories of the days when I was very young and actually enjoyed winter.

Angie ~ I've come to the conclusion that the beauty of freshly-fallen snow and sparkling icicles outweigh the the shoveling and inevitable, ugly, dirty slush.

Bobbie ~ Glad my icicles brought back good memories. It's funny, but I have the smallest house on the street, but the most spectacular icicles! I checked my former house, next door, and all they have are teeny, little wimpy icicles.

I'm sure it has something to do with no gutters on my house. My icicles can form with impunity... it is as if I am growing free-range icicles. We've had such a snowy winter, that I've decided to embrace the arctic ambiance and think of snow shoveling as an exercise program.

It does make getting around a bit of a challenge at times, so I'm happy that you enjoy a slightly milder climate... I'll be envious soon, as you embrace spring before we New Englanders do.

BRRRRRR. You can keep the icicles. They are all different and pretty but dangerous looking as well. I wouldn't want to be the poor guy standing in the wrong place when they fell.

You ask about my Mac landscape program and thank for the very excellent ideas for Edgewood Cottage. The landscape program is free. It's google SketchUp 7. It takes seconds to download and forever to learn. Fortunately, I had a landscaping program on my old computer and the basics were the same.

The graphics are pretty good. There is a whole library of goodies. There are even companies out there who design elements for SketchUp and will sell them to you in bunches. The freebies are weak in the landscaping department. Lots to buy but I didn't want to put that much money in it.

You won't find specific named plants usually. You just find something that is a similar size and color for idea purposes. Go check it out and have fun.

Anna ~ Thanks for the landscape program info. I'll have to look into it, and I see that it's priced right... "free" is well within my budget! I can see where this would be fun to try.

Nobody's standing under my icicles, so no worries - just beauty!

Shady ~ What a first winter for the little digital... it's practically smoking from all the photos I'm taking, and it's been such an icicle fiesta this year!

Wait till you see what Lucy's been up to - tell Sidney I'm making her post something withing the next day or two.

Did you attend the ball in Glittery Wood, yet? The gnomes are still celebrating over at the old Grouse & Chortle.

What a wonderful display of ice monsters! I especially love the Clethera image! Looks like a mural!
Sigh..only fog, fog, and even more fog here. Lots of moisture, but it's in the air, not falling to the ground. Everyone has frizzy hair.
Ground fog, upper level fog, inversion layer fog; last weekend it was 60 at the ocean, sunny and warm; but drive over the Coastal range eastward and what happens? The temp drops to 33 and more fog....it starts from the ground like a white blanket and just goes upward. At least I get to use my foglamps on my car. Finally.
Have a great weekend Deb. Got snow?
:o)

Carol ~ Got fog? My, interesting weather, out there. We have hat and hood hair!

Wednesday we received about 7" of snow, topped by sleet and freezing rain, now hardened into a concrete-like substance, with very slippery walkways! Oooh! Just keeps getting better and better!

Actually, they're calling for a bit of a warm-up next week, complete with rain. I hope the ark I'm building doesn't get stuck in a snowbank.

Glad you liked our monster icicles!
Well, back to work on the garden newsletter for February 'Corliss Clips.' I'll check out your other site. Thanks for dropping by.

LOL I landed here looking for a rose named "Icicle" because I got one for $5.00 today at a local nursery's mark down table. It was a bit surreal looking at those beautiful icicles!

I remember when I was so anxious for spring to get here, and now I'm wondering where it went.
