A Valentine's Day Break

Cheers to you, my gardening friends and writing cohorts!
I lift my glass to you, as I drink a toast to verdant gardens
And completed writing projects... to well-planned landscapes
And deadlines met.

On a day devoted to expressions of love...
A weekend of tender words and thoughtful gestures

Of fragrant roses and the whisper of a child,
An innocent kiss.

I urge you to join me, indulging in artistic fancy,
As I savor the Valentine's Day of yore.

Sweet sentiments of an earlier time,
A time of guilelessness.

The velvety fabric of a single, tender rose,
Presented so artistically.

Blushing maidens and
Delightful chatter.

It is a day of fond memories, extending back to childhood,
And I fully intend to reminisce.

I am on a Valentine's Day sabbatical this weekend.
I intend to drink in pages of old-fashioned artwork
And reams of poetry. I may even write reams of poetry.

Yes, I am GardenAuthor and I lift my glass to you!

I may break out the fig wine that Dad made in '95.
I hope to smell a fresh flower and consume a truffle,
If I survive the wine.
And if I survive the wine,
I will hug my dog.

I wish for all of you a most joyous
Valentine's Day!

Hi Deb and a Happy Valentine's Day to you as well !
I love those vintage post cards and art work .. so pretty !
I remember when we used to get the day at school to make Valentine cards .. and we had secret admirers ? LOL .. it was all a mix of embarrassment and fun : )
Fig wine sounds wonderful .. it is hubby's birthday and we all agreed on a cheescake birthday cake ! YUM !!
Enjoy yourself girl and give Lucy Maude and the boys all a hug from the girls here : )

Tina ~ Hope yours is a wonderful day!

Joy ~ Glad to see you're up and about, enjoying a nostalgic Valentine's Day with me. I do remember those childhood days of fun and awkwardness. You enjoy that cheesecake - have a slice for me and tell hubby "Happy B Day!" I'll pass along those critter hugs on Saturday!

Bobbie ~ Glad you like the vintage art! It fit my mood to a "T." That is odd about the fig wine. At one or two small glasses a year, I'll be toasting my Dad for years to come. I'm not much of an imbiber, but that is a rich, smooth wine... quite similar to Harvey's Bristol Cream Sherry. Have a wonderful weekend!

Shady ~ Must be in a sappy, sentimental mood, or maybe just sick winter! Roses, candy, vintage cards, reminiscing... somehow it all appeals to me.

Had a big garden club lecture on pruning this morning... wonderful group of dedicated gardeners... nice way to get a head start on the season! (It was at the nursery and Lucy was on her best behavior - meeting and greeting everyone... makes a "mom" proud!)

Not a big wine drinker, but that fig wine of my Dad's is very like a full-bodied sherry... a little sweet and very smooth. He left me with enough for my lifetime.

I will endeavor to write up a storm - except for Saturday, when Lucy and I are at the nursery. She gets to greet customers all day and is exhausted by closing time. Have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

And a very Happy Valentine's to you too. I'm going to buy a bottle of wine from a 400 year old grape vine. It was cultivated and is now sold by Duplin Winery in Rose Hill, NC. I think it will be grand and I will raise a toast to you as well.

Anna ~ A 400 year old grape vine? How amazing, as I'm sure the wine will be... "clink!" Have a wonderful day!
