even the dead ones! Gotta fuel the garden
writers, right? Gotta meet those dreaded
deadlines, don't we?
At 39 cents a pound, back in November, I couldn't resist, so stashed away this 20+ pound bird away in the freezer. He spent the last six days defrosting in the fridge and this morning was ready for his big debut on Lucy-Maude's and my dinner plates (and yes, the finicky cats will be offered some, as well... I'm guessing only 2 will care).
Just finishing up the browning phase -
that 5-hour timing was right on.
We're in the first day of what is to be a 2-3 day
snow event (they're saying Nor'easter), so this
turned out to be a most fortuitous culinary event!
And not a bad day for writing, either!
I'd stay and chat, but I have an
appointment with a most fragrant fowl.
I'll be by to start visiting blogs,
after a fabulous Sunday dinner and probably
after a turkey-coma nap ~ ah, shades of Thanksgiving!
Happy 'Corliss Clips' and have a great
what's left of Sunday! (click here, to read)

Deb .. I am really laughing here .. I bought an "Easter" turkey because they were on for a wicked price of .99 cents a pound and we thought that was Fantastic !! I bet there will be a lot of lip smacking going on in that fragrant home tonight : )
Joy ~ That's too funny! Guess we Yankee bachelorettes have an eye for a bargain, eh? As a matter of fact, Thanksgiving I had one of those hotel-style turkey breasts (an unbelievable 89 cents per pound)... I had already purchased 2 of these when I found the whole bird - could not leave it there, at 39 cents/lb.
My latest buy was smoked picnic shoulder at 79 cents/lb - limit 2 - bought 2 and cooked both, so I can slice and freeze the nice big slices I cut. I froze the bones, with lots of meaty bits clinging, so I can make my famous baked ham soup later, when the mood strikes.
Hey, your .99/lb turkey's a good buy, too! Bet it will be pretty tasty. And yes, lips were smacked... mostly Lucy's and mine, although Stanley had a few pieces. The triplets did not partake... for some reason, they think the only thing edible comes out of a can of bag - definitely not something I concoct.
Thanks for the visit! Say "hi" to the girls, from the boys. They were lined up in the windows all day watching phase one of our #!*? Nor'easter. Yay! More snow!!!!!! GRRR!
That was a great buy... and look at what you've done!! I'd have a fork and knife in each hand, but it wouldn't do me any good, would it. !
I'm reading your comment above. GRRR for sure, but does that mean your March has come in like a lion? Most usually that means you'll have a lamb at the end of the month! (We, on the other hand, had a beautiful day today...)
Shady ~ Yep - just a picture of roast turkey... closest I could get to sharing it with everyone. It was a nice way to celebrate finishing the March issue of 'Corliss Clips.'
That "lion" deposited lots of stuff - about 9-10" deep - and I'm tired of cleaning up after him. Definitely looking forward to some "lamb time" later this month. Glad you've had some improvements, weather-wise!
There is nothing quite like the smell of a turkey roasting in the oven. Unless of course it caused by all the great leftovers.
Ralph ~ You're right! In fact, I'm presently enjoying the smell of turkey soup, phase one... lots of work, but huge rewards!
Deb, What a nice job you did on the Corliss Clips. I've just browsed through it... I need to read it MUCH more carefully, yet. You have some wonderful information there... for everyone. :-) We had a Noisy rainstorm during the night. It's been sprinkling all day. All-in-all, a good Spring rain. :-)
Shady ~ Thanks, muchly! Glad you're enjoying spring rain. Our last snowstorm is slowing disappearing, after our current warming trend. Lest we get too giddy, there are freezing rain and snow showers due overnight, into tomorrow... yippee!
