UPON CLOSER INSPECTION...

Spring can be understated or as flamboyant as this
tulip, which surely deserved a second look.

Upon closer inspection, spring has sprung
and continues to spring, here in New England!

The thorny shadow of an ancient rose
provides the perfect foil for such flamboyance.

Sometimes a single daffodil bloom, nestled in
a crevice of a ledge outcropping, warrants closer
inspection...

even GardenAuthor's
GardenPup appreciates an in-depth look.

Hens and chicks have weathered yet another winter
and set about the business of trying to crowd out
the persistent grasses.

Trumpets, the color of sunshine, herald spring's arrival!

Spring skies that need contemplation.

A tough little violet, deserving our congratulations.

And the dreaded dandelion lifts its yellow mane
in celebration of this glorious day!

How did this happen? A Chionodoxa seems exuberant,
thriving in the crack 'twixt cement step and pavement.

Forsythia glows in the noonday sun.

And competes with an April sky.

All too soon, the maple saplings will refoliate,
obscuring the water view.

Imprisoned by grape vines gone wild, forgotten
daffodils prove their hardiness.

Star-of-Bethlehem (Ornithogalum umbellatum)

A weeping willow, clothed in a haze of tender gold.

Spring is in evidence at every garden center,
this time of year...

But even a lavish display, such as this,
deserves a closer look ~

See what I mean?

But, when all is said and done, even the most
avid seeker of spring deserves a nap
in the warm, spring sunshine!*

I hope that you, too, have found spring,
upon closer inspection!

To Shady, Angie and Pete ~

Thanks so much for stopping by... glad you enjoyed this bit of New England spring.

Apologies to all followers of this blog, but I barely find time to post these days - especially with the suddenly summerlike weather, which spells "busy" at the garden center... writing the garden newsletter, hosting the garden broadcast, other writing projects, as well as gardening and the day-to-day hustle and bustle of life, have left no time to visit your blogs... for this I apologize and will try to remedy the situation.

I do hope everyone's having a spectacular spring! ..... Deb

You with that camera seem to have a gift and talent. I love your pictures. Purple foxglove??? and that butterfly is beyond pretty.

Ralph ~ I do hope that spring has meandered out your way. It's been a beautiful season here... an actual spring, with warm breezes, sunshine and everything - much nicer than our usual winter, part 2.

RootDigger ~ Thanks for dropping by and all your nice comments! Nature, gardening and photography are such a natural fit, don't you think? I've only had the little Polaroid since August '08, so I'm still learning what works and what doesn't. Hopefully, someday I'll have a zoom lens for nature shots and a macro lens for better details.

My biggest frustration is not being able to capture the 10 wood ducks in our backyard swamp, with this little camera.

I hope your spring is proving as picture-worthy as ours, here on the East Coast of MA..... Deb

Deb, I've just visited your newest blog! You are doing such wonderful things!! Wouldn't it be fun to live nearer you?? You are truly an asset to your "neck of the woods!" :-)

Shady ~ Thanks for dropping by the new bulletin board blog... it provides backup info for the events segment of the garden broadcast. So many neat and interesting events around here - it's a nice "neck of the woods" in which to live.

Now that WNBP has started live streaming, anyone... anywhere in the world... can listen to the station on their computer - including, of course, the garden broadcast each Sunday from 8-10a.

Love the music, as well... nice background while I'm writing. Hope you enjoy the show this Sunday!
