Mother Nature Celebrates Mother's Day





Alexandrina Saucer Magnolia 
Magnolia soulangiana 'Alexandrina'  
25’H x 25’W. Large dark pink-red buds open to 
pink blossoms. Cup-like blooms. Sun or part shade.

Rhododendron 'Scintillation' 4-6’H x 6-8’W. Deep, clear pink 
in mid to late May. Broader than tall. Attractive glossy foliage. 
Requires well-drained soil in a protected location. Does best 
in a bright spot with some midday shade to avoid sun scorch.

Azalea 'Nancy' 2’H x 3-4’W. A Robin Hill hybrid with 
low spreading habit. Pretty light pink hose in hose 
double flowers.  Evergreen.  Each flower has the 
appearance of a delicate pink gardenia blossom.  
Spectacular!

Magnolia x 'Elizabeth'
Large cupped flowers emerge in early May.  Yellow buds 
open to creamy blossoms, with sweet fragrance.  Vigorous, 
upright growth.  Needs protection from harsh winds.  
Performs best in full sun to partial shade.  Thrives in rich 
organic soil, well-drained but evenly moist.

Azalea 'Silver Sword' 3’H x 3’W. 
Heavy flowering, deep red blooms. Variegated 
foliage for extended interest. Evergreen.
Tolerates sun or part shade.
Andromeda polifolia 'Blue Ice'  15”H x 2-3’W.  
Narrow silvery foliage resembles rosemary leaves. 
Clear pink flowers in Spring. Very cold hardy. 
Likes boggy soil. Avoid hot dry locations.

Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire' 4-6’H x 4-5’W. 
Most popular variety has lush green foliage with 
fiery red new growth flush. Red color continues 
appearing throughout summer for extended appeal.
White flowers in spring hang from plant in strips.
Pieris is deer resistant.

Azalea 'Girard's Fuchsia' 3-4’H x 3-4’W. 
Dark reddish-lavender in mid-May. Evergreen. 
Very showy bloomer. 
Spirea prunifolia
Bridalwreath Spirea 6-8’H x 4-6’W. An old-
fashioned classic. Gorgeous small double white 
flowers in early spring cover the plant.

Azalea 'Western lights' ~ 2-3'H x 2-3'W Deciduous.
Vigorous grower with lush foliage and
clear pink flower clusters.

Azalea 'HinoCrimson' 3-4’H x 4-5’W. Strong red 
flowers in mid-May. Extremely profuse, showy bloomer. 
Decent foliage retention. Excellent sun tolerance 
and cold hardiness. 

Here in the Northeast, Mother Nature is finally, albeit 
reluctantly, allowing our gardens a bit of finery... just in 
time for Mother's Day this Sunday, May 8th.
